A FISH owner woke up to discover about 50 koi carp had been stolen from his garden overnight.

The man found two of the fish dead on the grass of his back garden in Pendle Drive, Basildon, at 8.30am this morning (Wednesday).

Essex Police believe someone may have climbed over his fence during the night and stolen the other fish.

PC Marek Jaworski said: “We will be conducting house-to-house enquiries, but in order to quickly identify who the culprits are we’re appealing through the media for an initial appeal to anyone who
may have seen or heard any unusual or suspicious activity on the road overnight.”

Anyone with information about the theft can call Basildon police station on 101.

I believe that Eastern Europeans have a liking for carp which is traditionally served at Christmas time. In fact I enjoyed one myself on the banks of the river Vltava in Prague some years ago. Only an observation!
Of course, the culprit could have been a greedy Pike(y)es they do eat carp too) but I guess he’d still be in the pond.

Give a thief a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a thief to fish (especially in the dark) and you feed him for a lifetime.

Two fish on the lawn? Sounds like a fox or cats to me. Foxes in particular can get around, over and under many obsticles to get food. They may also kill a complete stock of fish or chickens and just eat one.

Good job nobody in their right mind takes these “Edirors Choice” threads seriously, or

the copper investigating might find himself arrested as an “East European” suspect ( name was the only givaway)

    and
the office juniors and cleaners at the paper
wouldn’t get their moment spotlighting their comedy skills that always target
travellers or anybody else the paper wants to target.

When true villains are mentioned by others, such as Lord Hanningfield, Conservative and unionist, former leader of Essex County Council, jailed and released early after fraud convictions,
we find the thread quickly removed.

Same goes for developers plans for the greenbelt. If it’s a working class area, then it seems to quite alright as far as the council is concerned.
Thread still gets removed pronto, however, as it must be a bit embarrassing for those on the Gravy Train.

yet againPolice failure to catch thieves, because there arent any police patroling the streets anymore. Thanks once again Essex police service !. used to be a force, now just mere part timers. and incapable of catching criminals. just collecting statements by appointment to build a database of crime, oh how sad.

Probably Gilson trying to earn a few bob to pay his £400k fine.

Eastern Europeans do like carp , a big favourite. Tastes awful. Prize fish here at angling clubs are cheap as chips on the slab in Romania.

As I recall, he recently said on another thread that when he says Pikey then he means Pikey. Since the word Pikey does not appear in the posting it must surely be safe to assume that he did not intend using it. I hardly think that is cause for criticism. I thought we had all agreed that the term Pikey was a perfectly legitimate one anway !
