Soldiers drafted to Kaduna villages

KADUNA- Soldiers and anti-riot policemen have been drafted to Bitaro, Koi in Jaba Local Government area of Kaduna State following the alleged killing of three of the natives by some Fulani herdsmen yesterday, the police have confirmed. 10 people were allegedly wounded during the incident.

State Police Spokesman, Aminu Mohammed who confirmed the deployment of soldiers and policemen to the area told Vanguard that the number of those wounded during the incident was not yet known.

Mohammed said: “They attacked about four homes. It has been confirmed that three people were killed. They did not use any fire arms. They used only machetes and knives to kill them.

“As I speak, the police and soldiers keeping the peace in the area are combing the bushes for the attackers. They killed two men and a woman. I do not know the number of those injured, but they are being treated at a nearby hospital. We hope to get them from where they are hiding”.

However, a source from the town who spoke to Vanguard said  the gunmen numbering about 20 killed the head of a family, Hassan Baba, his younger brother who is married with children and a 13 year old girl. About 10 people are  in the hospital.

“The men are Fulani cattle rearers. They entered the village at about 1 am after we have gone to sleep

“When they came, they ordered  the family out and started , matcheting them and we heard them, the entire community came out but we were afraid to confront them. I quickly took my car and rushed to Kwoi and informed the soldiers. But they had to call their boss to take permission and before we rushed back to the village, they have fled.

If the soldiers had responded promptly, I am sure they would have apprehended them.

“The soldiers came in too late. The youth of the village mobilized themselves and went to different areas in the bush but could not see any trace of the attackers.
