Poetic passion

By Ahnushka Kaur Riar

IF THE idea of a night of laughter and entertainment appeals to you, then poetic concert Koi Deewana Kehta Hai could well be right up your alley. It features Dr Kumar Vishvas and Mr Ramesh Muskan, both famous Indian poets of this generation, and will be held at the Singapore Symphony Orchestra concert hall.

This will be Dr Vishvas’ second concert in Singapore. And he tells tabla! that he considers himself lucky: “My performances have fetched me several organisers and audiences everywhere, but my Singapore visit has fetched me friends. The way people met me before and after my performance was a never-before experience for me, and I am still in touch with a lot of them.”

Having performed over 3,000 poetic concerts in more than half a dozen countries, his poetic couplet Koi Deewana Kehta Hai is one of the most popular in India. Although it is all about love, Dr Vishvas claims that he penned this in a difficult period: “Koi Deewana Kehta Hai was not something that evolved during the best of my days.

It was a time of struggle when I had to fight against several odds but I knew there is a power that would drive me through. Today, young boys and girls express their love through this couplet and millions of youths use it as a ringtone for their mobile phones… it has made me forget the pain behind the composition.”

Dr Vishvas guarantees this show with Mr Muskan, a talented poet in the hasya (humour) genre, will be different from his last: “It was a kavi-sammelan (poetry gathering) last time, but this time it’s going to be a concert with only two performers so for sure we have more time and space to share our thoughts.”
