35pc of govt services online but only 43pc of Malaysians use them
THE response and usage of the online services provided by the government for the people is still low.
Malaysian Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (Mampu) director-general Datuk Mohamad Zabidi Zainal said the government has offered 35 per cent of its services online including myServices, myBayar and myNews.
“Even though the services are offered online, the response is still low, with only 43 per cent users using the services,” he said after opening the two-day Malaysia Chief Information Officers and Malaysian Government Open Source Software Conference (MyGosscon) 2011 yesterday.
The conference, which ends today, is a platform for participants to discuss new initiatives for innovation and also new developments in the information and communications technology (ICT) sector.
Mohamad Zabidi said majority of users of the online services were in urban areas.
“It is still low in rural areas because of the limitation of infrastructures and the socio-economic status.
“We are trying to promote the usage of online services by setting up several ICT centres to reach out to new users,” he said adding that it was part of the aim to provide 90 per cent of the government’s services online by 2015.
He said the Inland Revenue Board was an agency that benefited from its E-filing, E-registration and Electronic Stamp Duty Assessment and Payment System.
“ICT is important because it is a nebula of communication between the government and the people.
“Along with the nation’s progress, efforts for a digital transformation is a must, especially in vital services to the people.”
