Alan hopes show will prove cash koi for charity

An internationally-renowned fishkeeper will be showcasing his prized Japanese Koi carp to the public next month to raise money for charity.

Alan Coogan, 57, from Soham, travels the world judging the giant colourful fish and boasts one of the best Koi carp collections outside of Japan.

But on Saturday, July 2, and Sunday, July 3, Mr Coogan will be bringing his passion closer to home when he holds a Koi carp exhibition at The Severals in Newmarket.

All money raised from the exhibition will be donated to the breast cancer unit at Addenbrooke’s Hospital.

Mr Coogan, who lives with his wife, Janet, in Hasse Road, said: “My wife suffered with breast cancer so I wanted to do something to help the unit.

“This exhibition will be something that many people have not experienced before.

“Most people think they have seen Koi carp but this is a rare opportunity to see how they really should be – these are the racehorses of the fish world.

“All the fish will be specially-designed tanks called vats and I think people will be overwhelmed by the sheer size and striking colours of them.

“I’m hoping to raise as much money for the unit as possible.”

The exhibition will be open from 11am onwards on both days.
