Benapole, Jessore, Oct 14 (bdnews24.com) — Benapole land port officials have seized a large haul of Hilsha at the land port.
Fish monitoring centre official Aminul Islam told reporters that the five-tonne haul, destined for India, was seized on Thursday evening.
Nirala Sea Food had come to clear the consignment identifying them as Koi fishes, he said.
“We called the UNO (Upazila Nirbahi Officer) when we saw that a large amount of Hilsha was mixed with Koi,” he added.
The seized Hilsha were sold at Tk 210,000 at an auction in the presence of Sharsha UNO Kamrul Arefin the same night, Islam said.
The government banned fishing and trading of Hilsha during breeding season, which is from Oct 6 to Oct 16 this year.
