August 24, 2011
Rare fish worth thousands of pounds will be swimming around a Twyford garden centre next month.
More than 120 Koi carp will be splashing about at Hare Hatch Sheeplands in London Road, Twyford, on Saturday, September 3, and Sunday, September 4, for The Kennet Valley Koi Society Show.
Mike Fisher, chairman of the society, said: “It will without a doubt be the biggest show of its type to take place west of London this year.
“We have held one day shows at Sheeplands before but this time our show is being held over two days and will be open to enthusiasts outside of our society.”
Ranging in size from 25cm to 90cm the fish will be darting about the water with 13 different varieties on show.
And there will be a number of awards up for grabs with prizes for the biggest fish, the best container and the prestigious grand champion,
Show chairman Mark Harrowell said: “The committee has been busy making plans for months and lots of work and effort is being put in to ensure the success of the show.”
And in keeping with the Japanese theme of the event there will also be a display of Bonsai trees and granite statues on show and for sale.
The show runs from midday to 5pm on the Saturday and 10am to 4pm on the Sunday. Entry is £1 with children under 14 free with an accompanying adult.
