She shot to fame as plain Jane
Jassi’s sophisticated rival in popular TV show Jassi Jaisi
Koi Nahin but actress Rakshanda Khan is all set for an image
makeover with her character of a loud Punjabi woman in Ammaji
Rakshanda is known for her controlled performance in
Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and Jassi. This is why the
36-year-old, who is making a comeback of sorts with the Sab TV
comedy show, took up the challenge to play a character, who is
an alien to her personality.
“It is a complete 180 degree turn in my career graph
with this character. I was scared initially. I had no
reference point as it is not even connected with the kind of
roles I have done in the past,” Khan told PTI.
The actress, who is also famous for her sartorial
choices onscreen, has decided to go loud by wearing bright
coloured patiyala salwars to play Parminder.
“I faced loads of difficulties. She’s not your
particular Tulsi or parvati bhabi. Parminder has her temper.”
The small screen is witnessing the return of some of
the old faces after being dominated by new talent for a while
and Rakshanda considers it a good sign both for the actors and
for the shows.
“Somehow I feel that the new generation actors are
pretty much momentary stars. They are like the bubbles. When
the bubble gets burst, they disappear. Somehow the older batch
of actors seem to have created a long lasting bond with the
audience. Even today you have specially written characters for
Farida Jalal, Ronit Roy and Apara Mehta,” said she.
“Drama serials are making people cry from ages. Time
has come when people want to watch something light on their
television sets after coming back home. When it comes to
comedy there is 120 different sequences. Seeing the particular
character you don’t feel monotonous,” added Rakshanda.
The actress, who kept away from TV for almost two
years, says her event management company kept her busy.
“The kind of roles that came my way did not excite me
much. So I kept myself busy with by event management company
‘Celebrity locker entertainment’,” Rakshanda said.
