DRIPPING SPRINGS, Texas (KXAN) – A 2-year-old boy was taken to Dell Children’s Hospital Friday afternoon after being rescued in a near-drowning incident in a Koi pond in his backyard.
Hays County Sheriff’s Office said the boy and his siblings were playing in the fenced yard in the 400 block of Farrell Drive while the mother was in the restroom. The victim’s 4-year-old brother allegedly opened a gate in the fence, allowing the smaller boy to walk to the pond, where he fell into the water.
A sister found the 2-year-old a few minutes later, officials said, told her mother and 911 was called. The 911 operator gave the mother CPR instructions via phone while an emergency medical services crew was en route to the house.
The boy was conscious and breathing when he was taken by ambulance to the hospital. He is listed in stable condition, but is being kept overnight for observation.
The sheriff’s office and Child Protective Services are investigating the incident.
