A suspect in a shooting outside a Spokane Valley nightspot was arrested by authorities hiding in a backyard koi pond this morning.

Aaron P. Williams, 23, was booked into the Spokane County Jail on first-degree assault with a firearm.

The arrest stemmed from an incident about 1:50 a.m. in the parking lot outside the Goodtymes Pub at 9214 E. Mission Ave.

Spokane Valley police said several shots were fired in a confrontation involving two groups of men. One of the men suffered a leg wound that was not life threatening, said Sgt. Dave Reagan in a news release.

The shooter ran south from the pub and was tracked by a police dog to a residence in the 9300 block of East Sinto Avenue. Williams was pulled from the pond and treated for hypothermia.

A small semi-automatic handgun was subsequently found in a residential mail box in the area.
