Strikeforce Heavyweight Champ Alistair Overeem

On Thursday, The Law Offices of Roderick J. Lindblom addressed the lawsuit Alistair Overeem (Pictured) filed in L.A. County Superior Court yesterday against their clients, Golden Glory and Knock Out Investments (KOI).

“This lawsuit is a preemptive action on the part of Mr. Overeem and his counsel in response to KOI’s recent notification to Mr. Overeem of numerous violations by him of his management agreement with KOI, including but not limited to his failure to pay commissions for past fights and endorsement deals secured by KOI and Golden Glory,” Lindblom expressed.

Overeem is accusing his former management of neglecting to pay him more than $150,000 in earnings, including a massive bonus for signing with the UFC in September. “The Demolition Man” dumped Golden Glory exactly two weeks after coming to terms with the planet’s premier mixed martial arts promotion.

Overeem is suing for unspecified damages and wants a court order to cancel his contract with Golden Glory and KOI.

Lindblom claims their clients are respected organizations that have always been committed to securing the best deals and training for their fighters.

“Alistair Overeem is a striker – he wants to throw the first punch,” Lindblom noted. “But this misguided decision to file a lawsuit as a preemptive strike leaves Mr. Overeem vulnerable in ways our clients wished to avoid.”

Golden Glory made waves in the MMA world in July when their long-standing payment policies were made public. They insist on getting paid directly from fight promotions so they can then distribute the funds to their athletes.

Unfortunately for GG and their clients, Zuffa, LLC, the parent company of the UFC and Strikeforce, have never operated in that fashion. Zuffa subsequently cut ties with multiple Golden Glory fighters because they insist on paying the competitors directly.

Lindblom stated his clients are in receipt of Overeem’s lawsuit and are assessing all available defenses and counterclaims.
