Elizabeth Taylor’s Bel-Air Estate Revealed

As a fan of the inimitable Elizabeth Taylor, people may consider her gone, but never forgotten. That is why fans find it fascinating that no sooner had she passed that her 1.2-acre, 7,000-square foot, ranch-style Bel-Air estate went on the market. In fact, the estate officially listed the estate for sale on Monday, May 23.

The magnificent estate reveals a lot about the fabulous Ms. Liz. The listing came with a suggested $8.6 million price tag, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Dame Elizabeth lived there from 1981 to her death in March from congestive heart failure at age 79, calling the estate “mystical.” Another legend, Nancy Sinatra Sr. previously owned the house. But Liz made it her own. According to the Real Estalker, Monday, May 23, was the day of the official house listing. The home rocked five bedrooms, including a master bedroom lined with her signature lavender matching her eyes, according to the Real Estalker.

Ms. Taylor made this place her home, her real home, so the public and fans would appreciate those personal touches. Her living room had a beamed ceiling. A former movie screening room transformed into her office. The grounds feature koi pond, swimming pool — of course — hothouse for growing orchids and a terraced English garden. Classy and cool, if you ask me.

As befitting the top-of-the-food-chain celebrity status she enjoyed, Liz loved to live in beautiful places. She had houses all over the world as part her life and jet set lifestyle. The Bel-Aire main home was very laid-back compared to many of them. Check out all of Elizabeth’s beautiful homes. Curbed profiled them.

The listing has created a lot of commentary in the celebrity real estate market.

“There’s certainly the panache of Elizabeth Taylor, and the celebrity status that she brings with the property, and then of course there is the straight real estate value which is Bel-Air exclusive, lower Bel-Air. I think one of the most exclusive neighborhoods in the world,” Real Estate Expert Mauricio Umansky, of the Umansky Group said to NBC Los Angeles.

Mossier Properties, on its website, described the home as a “1960s ranch home with treetop views across Los Angeles which has been meticulously maintained.”

Other features of Elizabeth Taylor’s home, according to the Daily Mail included “A enormous galley-style country kitchen offering all the amenities for a large family, powder room, lower master suite, two family bedrooms with garden access, maid’s quarters, a screening room turned office, and an adjoining powder room with sauna and shower are all contained on the lower floor. A second master bath with spa tub, dressing room and two smaller bedrooms were upstairs.”

Got $8.6 million then? Maybe, most likely not. That’s OK. We can live vicariously through Elizabeth Taylor’s Bel-Air home listing for a while anyway.
